# How many producers are registered in Spain's packaging register? > A count of the public list MITECO publishes for the packaging section of the Registro de Productores de Producto (RPP): registrations, the NIF letters of the companies listed, and the year in each registration number. List updated by MITECO on 30 September 2026; counted on 4 October 2026. **66,742 registrations in the packaging section of the RPP. 27,077 of the NIFs listed begin with N, the letter Spain gives to entities without Spanish nationality.** ## By NIF letter | NIF in the list | Registrations | |---|---| | Begins with N: entity without Spanish nationality (Orden EHA/451/2008, art. 4) | 27,077 | | Begins with W: permanent establishment of a non-resident entity (art. 5) | 163 | | Other letters | 34,038 | | No NIF shown in the list | 5,464 | | Total | 66,742 | ## By year in the registration number | Year in the registration number | Registrations | |---|---| | 2022 | 9 | | 2023 | 22,980 | | 2024 | 8,999 | | 2025 | 11,405 | | 2026 | 23,349 | ## How it was counted - We downloaded the list MITECO links from its RPP page (an .xlsx file, replaced about once a month) and counted it. MITECO publishes no checksum; the MD5 of the file we counted is 5beaa499154f1681c18d6771ba811d0f. - Each row is one registration with its own number (ENV/year/number). No registration number appears twice, and no NIF appears twice. - The letter at the start of a NIF is set by Orden EHA/451/2008: N for legal persons and entities without Spanish nationality (art. 4), W for permanent establishments of non-resident entities (art. 5). - The list shows no NIF for 5,464 registrations. MITECO says the document takes personal data protection rules into account. ## What the count does not tell you - An N at the start of the NIF says the entity does not have Spanish nationality. It does not say where the company is established, or whether it needs an authorised representative: MITECO's own page says a manufacturer with a subsidiary in Spain does not need one. - The year in a registration number is a feature of the number. It is not presented here as the date of registration. - The list shows who is registered. It does not show whether a producer has declared, joined a scheme or paid. - MITECO: - File counted:
